Trolley service begins one-hour intervals

Beginning Saturday, March 12, the Longboat Key Trolley service will change its schedule from a bus every half hour to one every hour. The hours the trolley will operate are from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. The service has operated on half-hour intervals until now, and funding was thanks to a Florida Department of Transportation grant. But that grant expired last summer, and Manatee County, Sarasota County and Longboat Key governments worked together to find funding for the service last fall

Longboat trolley rolls on

Longboat Key’s last minute push to continue the trolley was successful—at least in the short-term. Due to a concerted effort by citizens like Freda Perrotta, town staff and the Town Commission, the Manatee County Commission reversed its course that would have suspended its trolley service by Oct. 1 on Longboat Key.
