Sarasota native Nik Wallenda has announced he will walk across Niagra Falls on a tightrope on June 15. The walk will be 1,800 feet along a two-inch steel cable and will take 30-40 minutes. In February 2010, Wallenda did a 600-foot walk across a tightrope between the Ritz Carlton and the Watergate Condominiums in downtown Sarasota.

Everyone is talking about no dogs on the beach and their poop. Its not about the dogs its about their owners. It’s about Longboat Key’s fault for putting up with it. I come from a coastal town with some beautiful beaches as Longboat Key. The dogs can come and play anytime from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. with their owners, they even have church services on Sundays and everyone is happy, the dogs have their social time, we have a clean beach, everyone is a winner. If you are so concerned about contaminated beaches, think about all the seagull droppings.

During the 1970s Longboat Key’s hottest venue was the Far Horizons, a resort hotel with some of its suites as little villas on stilts actually in the Gulf. Its restaurant was the “talk of the town” and of the chef was Harry, now of Harry’s Continental Kitchen. After it closed down, the hotel site was the subject of a prolonged lawsuit between the town of Longboat Key and Dr. Murf Klauber.
