The issue for Longboat is the desire for increased control on how much and where those tax revenues are spent.
According to Town Hall, Longboat Key has received $4,381,867 since the tax was initiated in the fiscal year 1989 – 1990. The 5% is a collection imposed on short-term vacation rental properties.

A landscaped 6-foot berm the length of the entire site is currently being added to create buffering from Gulf of Mexico Drive.

The town has spent $25,068.15 to date on legal costs in the Armstrong case. The settlement arrangement consisted of $650 and a $2,117.50 non-interest-bearing lien against Armstrong’s home and an agreement to bring in a third-party inspector to settle the case.
