The first question I ask is has anyone lost their sense of mission? In this case I believe the mission is in order. Then I look for leadership qualities; is the leadership escalating or de-escalating the situation? I think Dezzi made efforts to de-escalate.
Over the years, Longboat Key Fire Rescue personnel have been called to several water rescue emergencies that resulted in poor patient/victim outcomes. A question the fire department had to answer was, “How can we make a difference in this situation?”
Getting information out to the public on severe weather is always a challenge for emergency services. Ensuring all residents, visitors, and employees get the information is a priority of the Town of Longboat Key.
Dezzi provided the commission with a summary of the call times of the Fire Department’s busiest month of the year (March) and the slowest month of the year (August), and determined difference in transport time and total time spent on a call.
