Last Thursday, across a bayou in the 700 block of Land’s End Drive, her sister — Joan Bergstrom — lost her home to a devestaing fire that rendered the structure a total loss. No one was injured and Bergstrom and her grandson escaped unharmed.

I have criticized these group of commissioners for being foolish on the Longboat key Club, being brain dead on the Publix expansion and reckless for the Hilton, but with their feverish desire to cut no matter the consequences goes beyond all of their previous idiocy’s.

Longboat Key firefighters narrowly approved in a 16-14 vote a new employee contract that moves all current and future employees out of the town’s pension system, freezes the existing town pension plan, and moves the employees to the Florida Retirement System (FRS).

The Town can check into the state retirement system, but it can never leave and that may ultimately be a good thing.
