Candidates exit commission race

Only one week before the Nov. 15 qualifying deadline, three residents who took out papers to run in the March 2011 election, including former Mayor Joan Webster, have decided not to run. Current commissioners Jim Brown and Phillip Younger will most likely be running unopposed for the election with the application deadline less than a week away; and one seat, the District 2 seat currently held by Mayor George Spoll, may not have any candidates.

I asked a few weeks ago, “Is it finished?” Well I suppose it is, at least the Town Commission’s part. Other forums will likely review the town’s actions in approving the Longboat Key Club and Resort’s Outline Development Plan Amendment Application (that’s a mouthful). This writer, who participated in the first act of this drama, was not surprised at the outcome reached on the last possible day.
