Bring back the bosses and the smoke-filled rooms

Let’s face it, the current system of nominating presidential candidates is a disaster and has been for some time. The political landscape was dramatically altered in 1970 when the Democratic Party created the McGovern Commission and sent them traipsing around the country getting the views of rank-and-file Democrats as how to make the nominating of presidential candidates more democratic, more in tune with the views of the hoi-polloi.
