Trolley service begins one-hour intervals

Beginning Saturday, March 12, the Longboat Key Trolley service will change its schedule from a bus every half hour to one every hour. The hours the trolley will operate are from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. The service has operated on half-hour intervals until now, and funding was thanks to a Florida Department of Transportation grant. But that grant expired last summer, and Manatee County, Sarasota County and Longboat Key governments worked together to find funding for the service last fall

Bicycles and signs are big news in Sarasota and Longboat Key as of late. According to a Feb. 3 Sarasota Herald-Tribune headline, “Bicycle accidents bolster area’s ‘dangerous’ reputation.” The story that followed listed four bicyclists in Southwest Florida who have died or been critically injured in accidents with cars just over the past week.
