Longboat Key Commissioners expressed universal dissatisfaction with the field of five town attorney candidates that Town Manager David Bullock asked them to consider at last Monday’s regular meeting. That leaves Northport attorney Rob Robinson and resigned yet still active Town Attorney Dave Persson’s partner Maggie Mooney-Portale in the running.

In real democracy, 45% of the board would represent the minority, meaning three out of seven commissioners. Because everyone votes for everyone on Longboat Key and we are running now as slates, we are going to see more and more one-dimensional Commissions excited that “they will now get things done.”

None of your recommended candidates has been “elected” by the citizenry. They were all originally chosen by sitting Commissioners who carefully vetted them before their anointment and appointment.
