Village pillage raises fear

The Village on Longboat Key has been plagued by home burglaries with six in the last six months and four in the last 30 days. Longboat Key Police Chief Al Hogle believes someone who either lives on the key or is very familiar with the comings and goings of the residents is committing the crimes.

Dan Franz could not have known what he was walking into that afternoon. Franz walked into the residence at 4011 Gulf of Mexico Drive for which he was caretaker around 3:25 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 8. Upon entering the home owned by Jack Norman, Franz noticed the house in disarray and three individuals inside the residence.
