Updated July 29, 2011. My family and I and our dog spend the month of February on Longboat Key every year. It has always been very difficult to find a place to exercise her because dogs are not allowed on the beach. Longboat Key is the only place we travel to that has this prohibition. We would greatly appreciate…

As you requested, the town attorney’s office researched the current state laws governing the issue surrounding the town’s regulations on the definition of “family” and how the town can control the number of unrelated people who can live in one place of residence. The research indicates that the town is within the legal boundaries if it chooses to reduce the number from no more than four unrelated individuals to no more than three unrelated individuals…

Updated May 27, 2011. I’m having a hard time figuring the logic here and maybe you can help. The town is facing a potential pension liability of millions of dollars and a beach nourishment liability of some $40 to $50 million, and now you are contemplating a community center for some $5 to $7 million?

I enjoyed your article ‘Let’s enjoy our own Longboat Key Renaissance.’ Your upbeat, “let’s get on with it” message is on point. The Key Club won over a majority of the residents and for good reason. Longboaters came to realize that the enhancements

Updated March 25, 2011. One of the reasons we bought on Longboat Key in 1999 was because of the good job done by PIC in representing the citizens against the developers. Updated Feb. 27, 2011. I have worked on Longboat Key since 1996. In all that time I have never noticed excess signage, and clearly never remember noticing signage centered around this bicyclist issue. Adding even now with the issue making front-page headlines, I cannot notice excess signage when driving to and from work. What surrounds my drive is the beauty and peacefulness, the tranquil gulf or bay surrounding my drive everyday…

Updated Jan. 30, 2011. With all due respect to the opinions of Richard L. Hershatter, esquire, he thinks and writes like the novelist and attorney persona that have brought him fame and honor. As an engineer I will try to respond to his well-thought-out comments, which graced last week’s issue of this newspaper…

Updated Dec. 31, 2010. Another thought—the cost analysis/comparison should also have the tax impact. For example, a property valued at $500,000 in both years would have a millage rate associated with the beach bonds of approximately x for the earlier bonds and approximately two times x for the proposed bonds or a total tax associated with the bonds of y and two times y, respectively…
