A south Longboat Key Gulf front home set a record in residential real estate for both Sarasota and Manatee County when it closed last Monday for $16.5 million.

A total of 19,300 square feet of air conditioned luxury space allows for the very embodiment of luxury, immensity, intricate design and appurtenances that include gardening rooms, an entire level for guests, a bird elevator and perhaps most importantly, 140 feet of prime beachfront on 1.2 acres.

The home, named “Serenissma,” which means “the most serene” in Italian, is located at 845 Longboat Club Road behind the gates of the Longboat Key Club between the golf course and the Gulf of Mexico.

The property was the primary residence of Mike and Michele McKee. And they originally listed the property with realtor Michael Moulton for $26.5 million in early 2017, Moulton held onto the listing and the property was reduced to $22.5 million in 2019, and $19.75 million last January.

The buyers, a retired Chairman and CEO of a well-known Fortune 500 Company, and his wife, will be relocating from Tennessee.

Rich Polese

Fine Properties agent Rich Polese represented the buyer and said the buyers were attracted immediately to Longboat Key after looking at properties on the east coast of Florida. Polese said the buyer interviewed him after locating him online and last August, he began showing properties to the couple. A month after he started working as their agent, the contract on Serenissma was signed.

Polese said the buyer is not a golfer but liked being on the beach and loved the idea of the Longboat Key Club from a social standpoint.

“The Longboat Key Club was a huge selling point and they like the idea that Longboat is a close-knit community,” said Polese.

Polese says he focuses on Longboat Key and works well with CEOs and many of the former business executives following his own career where he owned a manufacturing company in New Jersey. He said he dealt with very high level sales throughout his career before starting in real estate and that he has sold more than $34 million this year to date.

The previous record sale was set last July also on Longboat Key when the estate at 6021 Gulf of Mexico Drive sold for more than $13 million.

Many in the real estate industry have reported that listings have been selling almost immediately and listing inventory is low.
