Sarasota City Commissioner Liz Alpert narrowly held onto her District 2 Commission Seat after winning 6,045 votes against challenger Terry Turner’s 5,684 votes.

A major change on the commission will be the fact that Willie Shaw, who was first elected in 2011, lost to challenger Kyle Scott Battie in District 1. Battie received 53.91 percent of the votes.

Vice Mayor Shelli Freeland Eddie decided not to seek re-election in her District 3 seat and Erik Arroyo defeated Daniel Clermont by winning slightly more than 51 percent of the votes.

City Commissioners serve four year terms and the new board members were sworn in last Friday.
