City of Sarasota to Install Shade at Lido Beach Pavilion

The City of Sarasota has selected Apollo Sunguard as the contractor to design and install a shade sail structure at the historic Lido Beach Concession Building. The shade will provide a refuge from the sun and heat for patrons enjoying the beach and concession area.

Custom engineered to suit the location, the shade structure will include multiple fabric shade sails set at different heights and angles. The design will maximize the amount of shade provided in the courtyard, while placing the steel structure on the outside to keep the courtyard and walkways clear. The shade panels will block up to 94% of UV rays and lower temperatures underneath by up to 20 degrees, helping reduce exposure to sun damage and heat-related illnesses.

The shade structure is one of several improvements being made to the Lido Beach concession area. Installation of the sunshade is expected to be begin in April or May. The concession stand is currently closed, but installation of the sunshade will not interfere with concession or restroom operations. No installation will take place on Saturdays or Sundays.

Siesta Key beach #1 beach in America

The best beach in the U.S. once again can be found in Florida according to the latest TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards.

Siesta Beach near Sarasota reclaimed its No. 1 spot from last year’s top beach Clearwater Beach. Siesta also won the annual Dr. Beach list in 2011 and again in 2017.

TripAdvisor contributor Mary Beth S wrote a review on Feb. 24 saying, “This powder sugar sand beach is HUGE! FREE parking and admission ALWAYS! Clean but busy restrooms. Outdoor rinse showers. FABULOUS drum circle Sunday evenings for sunsets. A lot of walking though!”

The TripAdvisor ratings are based on the quantity and quality of reader reviews in theTripAdvisor community.

In world rankings, Siesta Beach rated 11th while U.S. runner-up St. Pete Beach rated 16th. Tops in the world were Baia do Sancho in Fernando de Noronha, Brazil, at No. 1; Grace Bay Beach in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos, at No. 2; Playa Paraiso in Cayo Largo, Cuba, at No. 3; Spiaggia dei Conigli in Lampedusa, Islands of Sicily, at No. 4, and Prainhas do Pontal do Atalaia in Arraial do Cabo, Brazil, at No. 5.
