Former Longboat Key Town Manager Dave Bullock is back at work again as the interim CEO of the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) of Sarasota County.

When Bullock left Longboat Key, he was excited to spend time motoring to the Keys in his 30-foot Mainship and to spend time with his wife and grandchildren.

“I did not miss working at first, I was like a kid out of school,” Bullock told Longboat Key News.

But Bullock’s lengthy experience in both the private sector and government arena brought him back into a job that focuses on the future of economic activity in the region.

The EDC expressed interest in Bullock to serve as interim CEO and Bullock said his background and the timing made the opportunity an interesting and agreeable proposition.

Bullock spent seven years as Town Manager leading the Longboat Key government. Before that, he served as Sarasota County’s Deputy County Administrator for 14 years.

Bullock says he’s excited to be in a role where he can attract economic opportunity and help develop the region’s economy.

“We want to grow the economy in a way that attracts higher paying clean jobs such as technology, medical and light manufacturing,” said Bullock.

Bullock said the Sarasota and Manatee region is such an attractive place to live and work that it can attract corporate headquarters and bring the type of professionals who enjoy the lifestyle.

The EDC is funded by both private and public monies and helps facilitate economic growth through many ways including targeting business expansions and relocations, working with companies in everything from meeting housing needs to permitting and workforce development and acquisition, as well as helping businesses navigate the regulatory environment.

Bullock is the interim replacement for Mark Huey, who served as the CEO and President of the EDC for the past eight years. Huey announced his resignation on Dec. 5, but is working through the end of the month to help during the transition.

“We are very happy that someone of David Bullock’s experience and stature was willing to step in to guide the EDC while we conduct our national search for a new CEO,” said Art Lambert, Chairman of the Board of the EDC.
