Longboat Key Club General Manager Jeff Mayers, a familiar face while overseeing the day-to-day operations for seven years, will work his final day on the island next Thursday.

“It’s bittersweet; although I’m leaving for a wonderful opportunity, this is a wonderful place. The ownership of the Key Club is really committed and I can’t say enough superlatives about the members and the community,” said Mayers.

Mayers will be starting the very next day as Managing Director of PGA National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens on the East Coast of Florida. PGA National features 90 holes of golf and holds the Honda Classic Tournament each year.

Mayers said the new job in many ways will combine his previous experience at Sawgrass Resort with his role on Longboat Key.

Mayers said he will miss the quality of life of Sarasota and Longboat Key and it’s been his favorite place he has lived. Mayers was an active member and participant on behalf of the Longboat Key Club in both the Sarasota and Longboat Key Chambers of Commerce, the Longboat Key Community Foundation, as well as the University of South Florida.

It is with USF that Mayers helped forge a relationship with their School of Hospitality. Mayers said he also enjoyed working with Visit Sarasota and its Executive Director, Virginia Haley.

Mayers has been known for his affable demeanor, communication skills and approachable management style.

Ocean Properties, which owns the Longboat Key Club, will announce a replacement for Mayers in the near future.

“I would like to recognize and thank the (owners of Ocean Properties) Walsh family and Andy Berger for their support and commitment over the years,” said Mayers.
