City to hold Lido Pavilion plan vote on a future Saturday to be determined

The plan to develop the Lido Beach Pavilion and Pool into a waterfront restaurant and tiki bar packed the City of Sarasota Commission chambers last month when the Planning and Zoning Board voted against the request for a major conditional use. The Planning and Zoning Board is an advisory board to the City Commission and the final vote has the hopes of the opponents to the plan hinging on its outcome. Last winter, the City approved a lease agreement to allow the proposed operation, but the major conditional use is a required approval that vets the compitability and appropriateness of the project with the neighboring uses.  In light of the hundreds of opponents who showed up at the last meeting and the thousands who have signed a petition opposing the plan, the City Commission last week agreed that it wants to hold the final vote on a Saturday to be determined at a City facility spacious enough to handle the expected crowd.  City Manager Tom Barwin said the meeting will likely have to occur early next year due to scheduling complexities.
