On June 6 at 11:45 a.m., Longboat Key Police responded to Longboat Pass Bridge for a car crash with multiple injuries.

Bradenton Beach Police officers also responded and arrested Rick Rowland, 43, for carjacking without a weapon.

Rowland had carjacked a 1998 silver Corvette from Coquina Beach and sped off southbound. While Rowland was on Longboat Pass Bridge, he was attempting to pass another vehicle at a high rate of speed when he collided with a Toyota RAV4 traveling northbound. The driver of the RAV4 was uninjured and the three passengers were sent to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the RAV4, Eduardo Quintana, said in the police report that the crash happened very quickly. Quintana also stated in the report that Rowland attempted to drive away first, then got out of the Corvette and attempted to run away on foot. This prompted Quintana to get out of his car and chase after Rowland. He caught up with Rowland, and Quintana held him down until police arrived. Rowland was taken to Manatee County Jail by Bradenton Beach Police.
