Final candidates ready for LBK election

The town commission body could be changing shape soon, as there are multiple new candidates on the election field.

The Nov. 20 deadline for the March 2018 Longboat Key election has come and gone, and the final list of candidates are now qualified. With Planning and Zoning Board member and chair BJ Bishop withdrawing from the election race last week, no preliminary election will be necessary.

However, there are three contested races out of the four open seats.

In District 3, Planning and Zoning Board Vice Chair Ken Schneier and John Weber, a retired Insurance Adjuster and director and president of the Islander Club will be up for the seat in March. In District 5, current Vice Mayor Ed Zunz will be opposing Randy Langley for the seat. And in the District At-Large seat, current Commissioner Irwin Pastor will be vying for the seat as resident Jack Wilson.

Lastly, in District 1, incumbent Randy Clair has qualified and remains unopposed.
