Longboat nabs its new Planning & Zoning Director from Sarasota County

The cherished Alaina Ray was not only respectfully admired by her co-workers, but by residents, business owners and commissioners who took notice of her attention to detail and hard work.

Former Planning and Zoning Director Alaina Ray is moving to Virginia for another job and her last day with the town was Friday. Town Manager Dave Bullock has hired a new Director for the Planning and Zoning Department from his three-time hiring pool of Sarasota County.

The new Director, Allen Parsons, is the  Sarasota County Planning Division Manager. Parsons has Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees in Geography from the University of Oregon and Florida State University, which he completed in 1996.

Parsons began his current position with the county in 2014, and will begin his position with the Town of Longboat Key on Nov. 1. Current staff will cover Ray’s responsibilities until Parsons begins his role with the town.

In his resume, Parsons states that he has also worked for the City of Sarasota Planning Department as well as the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Parsons has also worked for the private as well as the public sector.
