Longboat Key resident Doreen Dupont says she was attacked while protesting President Donald Trump at the corner of Gulf of Mexico Drive and Longboat Club Road.

According to Longboat Key Police Officer John Martin, Jr., Dupont and three witnesses were protesting at about 2 p.m. on May 14 when an unknown male and female suspect grabbed the victim and took Dupont’s phone and threw it.

According to the police report, the female suspect had gotten into a verbal conversation with one of the witnesses and that is when Dupont walked toward the two and started taking pictures and videotaping the incident.

“The videoing of the suspects apparently angered them, causing the incident to intensify,” reported Officer Martin.

Officer Martin took a photo of the picture on Dupont’s phone of the female suspect and emailed it to Det. Sgt. Bourque. Det. Sgt. Bourque told Longboat Key News that the department is investigating the incident as an allegation of battery and wants anyone who can identify the person in the photo, one of the suspects, to call him at 941-316-1973.

Officer Martin after speaking with the victim, inquired at the Inn on the Beach registration desk, the tiki bar, as well as staff and security at the Key Club guard gate to see if anyone could identify the female suspect in the photo. The female suspect is approximately 5 feet 2 inches, with blonde hair, and approximately mid 30’s to 40’s and was wearing sunglasses and a white shirt. The male suspect was described as 6 feet tall, clean cut, with short hair. He was wearing a short sleeve button up shirt. Both of the suspects had been pushing a baby stroller at the time of the incident and approached the protesters from the parking lot of the Chart House Restaurant. After the altercation and prior to the police arriving, they left walking west toward Inn on the Beach. One witness stated that the suspects may have driven away in a red truck heading south on Gulf of Mexico Drive. So far, no one has made a positive identification.
