A room full of board members, local residents, physicians and Sarasota Memorial Hospital CEO David Verinder were in attendance at the Grand Opening of the Hospital’s newest Urgent Care facility at St. Armands Circle.

The honorees of the opening, who donated to help fund the facility were Judy Zuckerberg and husband George Kole, both St. Armands residents.

The new Urgent Care facility is located at 500 John Ringling Blvd. and is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. The St. Armands Urgent Care, like the other five locations, serve as place for people to go who don’t necessarily need the emergency room and may not have, or be able to get an appointment with their primary care doctor. At the new Urgent Care physicians have the ability to treat colds, flu, burns, sprains, cuts, infections and fractures as an X-ray machine is located in the building. The facility also has lab services located on site.

Sarasota Memorial expects to get 10,000 visitors to the location in its first year and many of those will most likely be residents on Longboat, Lido and St. Armands Keys who prefer not to battle through traffic to get to a medical facility. Verinder said he hopes Plymouth Harbour residents will visit the facility as well as some residents from the mainland.

Also in an effort to serve the barrier islands, this year saw the opening of the Longboat Key Center for Healthy Living at the Centre Shops, which also provides medical services to area residents. With the addition of Sarasota Memorial’s St. Armands Urgent Care, Longboat Key and Lido Key residents will now have the ability to see a doctor without driving to mainland Sarasota.
