Coon Key Bridge near completion

Work on the bridge leading to St. Armands Circle is expected to be complete in late August. An exact completion date has not been identified, but crews expect construction will be complete and all lanes of traffic will be restored on the bridge connecting Bird and Lido Key by in the next few weeks and before the end of the month, according to a spokesperson for Florida Department of Transportation. The $704,300 project to replace the bridge decks on the span began in April and was expected to be complete at the end of July or early August.

The construction is no longer coupled with Longboat Key’s extensive truck haul to its beach renourishment project, which averaged about 200 dump trucks per day, six days per week over the bridge. The beach project finished in mid-July — two months ahead of schedule.
