Commissioner and Town Manager to urge MPO for funding of traffic study

Commissioner Jack Daly, also a member of the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), and Town Manager Dave Bullock will be proposing at the MPO meeting on Jan. 25, that it consider paying $135,000 of the $675,000 cost for the regional traffic study project. The $675,000 traffic study project will be performed by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and will examine the traffic problems in Sarasota and Manatee Counties. Daly and Bullock mentioned at a north end community meeting earlier in 2015, that they were considering getting the MPO to partially fund the FDOT study to ensure that the barrier islands’ traffic problems would not be overlooked. Daly wrote in an email to Bullock this week some encouraging news, “While the secretary (FDOT Secretary Billy Hattaway) will probably not have an answer for us on Monday, my discussions with him clearly indicate that any FDOT funding will necessitate some ‘local skin in the game’ funding by the MPO.”
