Voters say “Yes” in Key Club Tourism vote

Longboat Key voters said “Yes” in support of allowing the Longboat Key Club to build up to 300 Tourism units on its Islandside property. The results showed that of 3,669 votes cast, a total of 1,948, or 53%, voted in favor and 1,721, or 47%, against the proposal in a first-ever referendum ballot question that brought out more than 57% of Longboat Key’s 6,370 voters.

It was the Sarasota County portion of Longboat Key that won the day for Key Club owners Ocean Properties. A total of 1,460, or 55.74%, out of 2,619 votes cast said “Yes” to the referendum allowing the Tourism units and 1,159 voted against the measure in Sarasota County. Manatee County was against the idea overall with 488 for the measure and 562 against, or 53.5%.

Just over 51% of Manatee County voters participated and a more than 60% of Sarasota County voters on Longboat Key cast ballots.
