Longboat Key Club to serve as ‘Teaching Hotel’

The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee and the Resort at Longboat Key Club are teaming up to train people to work in Florida’s hospitality industry.

The partnership will turn the four-star resort into a “teaching hotel” for USF’s College of Hospitality & Technology Leadership program.

Students in the program will spend 16 hours total working in leadership, front desk, housekeeping and food and beverage areas in the hotel to get on-the-job training.

Right now Florida has 17,000 unfilled hospitality jobs. The program hopes to train people to fill those jobs, and ultimately to become one of the top hospitality schools in the country by the year 2020.
