LBK Fire Rescue water conditions flag program

LBKFR implemented a Water Conditions Flag Program providing citizens and visitors the conditions of the surf along Longboat Key.  The information determining which color flag to fly is determined by reports from both Lido and Cortez beach lifeguards who report their conditions to Mote Marine.  LBKFR obtains the most stringent of the two beach reports and flies that color flag at both Longboat Key Fire Stations.  Signs have been posted at the entrances of both fire stations defining the flag colors.

Longboat Key Fire-Rescue Department is always looking to partner with condominiums by providing signs (defining the flag colors) and flags for their flag poles.  Interested associations may contact the Fire Chief for further information.

Since the implementation of this program, Longboat Key Fire Rescue has not responded to a water rescue event on the beaches.

We encourage residents and visitors to know the water conditions before going to the beaches.  There should always be adults watching children who are swimming!

The department cannot stress enough the importance of water safety.
