Publix donation helps students work with Mote

Publix Super Markets Charities donated $12,500 Tuesday, Aug. 13, to help support a new program that gives students hands-on experience with science. This pilot program, led by researchers at Mote Marine Laboratory, began this past summer with students at Booker High School.

“It’s our pleasure to support such a great organization in their unique outreach to Sarasota and surrounding communities,” said Brian West, Media and Community Relations Manager for Publix.

One main focus of Mote is on educating the next generation of scientific leaders through opportunities like this that allows students to experience science first-hand. These opportunities occur through Mote’s partnerships with schools and through Mote programs that take place in non-formal settings.
