Robert J. Warfel dies at age 93
Robert James Warfel, a resident of Longboat Key, died on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012 at the age of 93. He was born in Kansas City, Mo., on May 10, 1919.
Robert had served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the South Pacific islands of the Philippines and New Guinea. Robert received a B.A. degree in business management from George Washington University in 1949. He and his first wife, Marion, raised three sons in Cheverly and Bowie, Md. He worked for the National Geographic Society as the director for the promotion and marketing of books. After retirement in 1985, Robert and his wife moved to the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia to enjoy the Mountain State.
In 2001, he moved to Longboat Key, to enjoy the warm weather with his second wife, Mary. He was an avid outdoorsman and award-winning photographer and member of the Shannondale Club and Bowie Crofton Camera Club.
