Longboat Key Internet Technology Department Director Kathi Pletzke informed through an email that the Town of Longboat Key was awarded the “Best Application Serving a Public Organizations Business Needs” by the Florida Local Government Information Systems Association. The submission was for the software the MIS Department developed for the Fire Department. Pletzke also stated that the City of Maitland wants a demo of it given to their Fire Department.

Commissioner Jack Duncan applauded the effort in an email to Pletzke: “My heartfelt congratulations to you and the IT Department on the great news that the Town of LBK received the FLGISA Technology Achievement Award. This is a great honor for the Town and a great honor for you and all the LBK employees across departments, who worked so hard to create these innovative technology products.  My thanks to you and your team who made this honor a reality. Great Work!”

How wonderful! I retired from a IT background and the award granted here is immense! After 30 years in the IT industry (both public and private) I know the value of such an award. The comments from Commissioner Jack Duncan are well earned. I look forward to reading similar kudos from whomever Pletzke reports to! This is the type of innovation that turns a profit if supported. Has the town looked into marketing the software that was awarded? In a time where “every penny counts” it seems that marketing this commended piece of work could produce revenue for our community and then added into the Island’s budget! Who is responsible for making sure this gets thoroughly researched and backed? This is a great opportunity!
