Longboat Open will offer $50,000 purse
West Florida Golf Tour owner Carl Wakely confirmed recently that the $50,000 Longboat Open will be played Nov. 1-4 and will held at the Longboat Key Club’s Islandside Golf Curse.
It will be a four-day tournament, and organizers said the first prize could pay anywhere from $8,000 to $10,000. An anticipated 100 players will commit from the WFGT, a local satellite tour that has attracted many players from the PGA Tour. Spectators will also be welcome.
A pro-am is also being planned for Wednesday, Oct. 31. Amateurs can pay $200 to play in the pro-am.
The presenting sponsor is Longboat Key Realtor Mark Huber, a Sotheby’s Agent. Huber said a yet-to-be named local charity will benefit from the tournament. He plans to invite local celebrities to play in the pro-am. Contact Wakely at (941) 735-4428 for more info, or Huber at (941) 356-2435.
