Coast Guard rescues fisherman off Longboat
A 66-year-old man was medevaced Monday by Coast Guard Station Cortez crewmembers from his fishing boat which was 10 miles west of Longboat Key.
A crewmember aboard the 50-foot fishing vessel contacted Coast Guard at 5 a.m. requesting a medevac for the man who was reported to be suffering from cardiac complications. Coast Guard watch standers launched a 25-foot Response Boat from Station Cortez to the scene. The crew arrived at 6:30 a.m., removed the 66 year-old, and transported him to Coquina Key boat ramp. He was then transferred to emergency medical personnel and transported to Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton.
