Save Our Seabirds hosts Sunset Soirée March 1

The inaugural Save our Seabirds Sunset Soiree will be hosted from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 1 at the Save Our Seabirds Center. This is an opportunity to visit and learn more about the injured birds and the rehabilitation and release efforts of this not-for-profit organization.

This fundraising event will feature guest speaker Kevin Carroll, the creator of “Winter the Dolphin’s” prosthetic tail. “Winter’s Tail” became a huge box-office hit with the release of “Dolphin Tale” in 2011.

Carroll has undertaken a new project — helping the sand hill cranes at Save Our Seabirds. Many of these regal birds at the center that have become amputees due to their injuries, and without the support of prosthetic limbs these birds would not be able to survive. Carroll is kindly donating his time to create these prosthetic limbs for the birds to help them live as normal a life as possible, although they will never be able to be released again into their natural habitat.

Save Our Seabirds Executive Director Lee Fox will also be on hand to discuss the center, which she started in 1990. A familiar figure to the local community for her efforts to save and rehabilitate the many injured seabirds that arrive daily at the doorstep of the center, she will speak about a few of the very personal stories that inspire her.

These compelling stories about the individual residents at Save Our Seabirds will educate you and inspire your generosity. Your attendance at the event will help raise the much needed funds to keep the center running and to continue to house the feathered friends that call the Save Our Seabirds Center their forever home.

Save Our Seabirds Center is at 1708 Ken Thompson Parkway, Sarasota. The cost to attend is $35 per person. To learn more about how you can support Save Our Seabirds and to purchase tickets to this fundraising event, call (941) 388-3010 or visit www.saveourseabirds.com.
