Longboat Pass Bridge update
The contractor will conduct both sidewalk reconstruction and bridge repair Sunday, Feb. 19 through Friday morning, Feb. 24. The sidewalk on the west side of the bridge is closed, and pedestrians are able to use the sidewalk on the east side of the bridge. Weather permitting, the west sidewalk is anticipated to be closed for three weeks.
Nighttime activities will require temporary lane closures controlled by flaggers between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. During these times, motorists should expect delays not to last longer than 15 minutes in either direction. During construction, the width of the travel lanes on the bridge is temporarily reduced from 12 feet to 10 feet. Nighttime lane closures will not be permitted from Friday at 10 p.m. to Sunday at 6 a.m.
The speed limit is reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph. Weather permitting, these activities are anticipated to last for several months. This project is anticipated for completion in the spring of 2012. The contractor is Quinn Construction Inc.
