Longboat Key Photographer Mary Lou Johnson hosted a wine and cheese reception this week for her “Ignite the Spirit” photography exhibit at Sarasota Bay Club.
On display are 40 of Johnson’s images as well as a slideshow with 150 additional. Three of Johnson’s pieces will be a part of the International Exhibition of the Professional Photographers of America January 2012 in New Orleans, La. One of those three pieces, “Crayola Eight Pack,” will be in their National Annual Book of Photography.
Sarasota Bay Club Director of Arts and Leisure Jill Ross contacted Johnson and asked her to exhibit her work. Johnson’s reply was “Absolutely!”
“It’s huge, because it’s a place I had always wanted to show. The residents and staff were extremely welcoming to me. It’s a great place to have a show,” said Johnson.
Those attending the opening reception included Skip Cohen and his wife, Sheila. Cohen’s parents are residents at Sarasota Bay Club. Cohen is past president of Rangefinder Publishing/WPPI, co-author of six books on photography, writer and executive, and founder of mei500.com and Skip’s Summer School.
“Ignite the Spirit” photography exhibit at Sarasota Bay Club is open to the public and will show through Dec. 30.
More of Johnson’s tropical pieces are on display at Downtown Sarasota’s Toasted Mango restaurant, opened by former waitresses from Longboat Key’s Blue Dolphin Café. Owners Kim Duffy and Sandi Wagner offer breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., where diners can enjoy Johnson’s brilliantly colored photography.
