What’s in store for Longboat shoppers?

Longboat Key shoppers will have an expanded store with more amenities and products. Following are details released this week on what residents can expect inside the new Publix. The Longboat Key Publix will have:

• A salad bar with more than 20 fresh salad selections, a soup bar offering several gourmet soups daily and a Pacific Wok featuring Pan Asian favorites and sushi.

• Seating area inviting customers to sit, relax and enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner.

• The produce department will be expanded to carry both organic and conventionally grown fruits and vegetables.

• The seafood department will offer wild- and farm-raised varieties of fresh fish as well as an extensive variety of shellfish options including lobster.

• A full-service meat department will allow customers to have their order cut any way they like, including a selection of meats that have never had any antibiotics or added hormones.

• More than 100 varieties of artisan cheeses. A certified cheese specialist will staff this full-service area.

• A larger variety of gluten-free products and will also offer more international foods too. Customers will find Mexican, Caribbean, South American, Brazilian, West Indian, kosher, British and German items.

• The wine department will offer an expanded variety of premium and specialty wines from around the world, along with a large selection of champagnes and sparkling wines. The selection will also include fine wines made from organic grapes.

• The bakery department will offer cakes, cookies and pies as well as an assortment of chocolate-dipped items. In addition to traditional breads and rolls, an expanded selection of focaccia and flatbreads will be offered.

• The deli department will include a full-service deli counter highlighting Boar’s Head meats and cheeses, as well as handcrafted old world delicacies, cured sausages, sopressata and aged prosciutto. The deli will also offer an international selection of olives, antipastos and hummus.
