Novice birders as well as those not familiar with Longboat Key’s birding spots will find Durante Park, a 32-acre wetlands, to be an excellent place to bird. It’s about one-third of a mile north of the Centre Shops on the same side of Gulf of Mexico Drive and offers parking. Six years ago I accidentally wandered in and have been going back ever since. It never fails to have some birds and offers meditative moments.
