Our SCATalogical fascination with public transportation

Our SCATalogical fascination with public transportation

We are not rural India—we have no sows undulating across Gulf of Mexico Drive as rickshaws weave on the bike path. Here it is worse—we face the ever-present rear end of a SCAT bus pulled over like some demented OJ Simpson parking job, so a sole rider can hobble up and pay a fee wherein the clinking change falls deep into a black hole and it is found on the side of an embarrassing balance sheet once a year.

The revolt of the white working class

The revolt of the white working class

Many Democratic candidates trying to survive the 2010 midterm elections know they must distance themselves from Mr. Obama and Nancy Pelosi, who are viewed as the authors of health care reform, cap and trade, and other legislative initiatives that are generally unpopular. While some Democratic candidates go so far as to attack parts of the president’s agenda, others take it a step further.

Again with the sign code

Again with the sign code

Things around the country are generally lousy. If you can’t avoid the political commercials, you know that there are people who know the reasons and are quick to point them out. On Longboat Key, a homogenous community made up primarily of upper middle class whites, the usual offenders aren’t around, so the finger-pointers have decided that the reason business is bad is because of the dreaded Sign Code.
