Longboat Key Club & Resort has received a “Best of the South” award from Meetings South Magazine. National meeting planners voted earlier this year to select their favorite properties over the last two years based on the following criteria: quality of meeting space, guest rooms, staff, service, food and beverage service, amenities, activities and value. The selection is made among properties in 14 southern states from Texas to Virginia, and includes properties in the Caribbean, Cancun and Bermuda.

Vote ‘Yes’ signs stolen from Village

Longboat Key Police Officer John Thomas met with former Town Commissioner Gene Jaleski Oct. 20 at his residence in Longboat Key’s Village community in response to a sign complaint. Jaleski advised Thomas that he placed “Vote Yes to Amendment 4” signs around the Village area, and unknown suspect(s) had been stealing the signs.

First annual sand sculpting competition to benefit turtles

Twenty of the country’s top master sand sculptors will compete in the first Siesta Key Crystal Classic Master Sand Sculpting Competition. The four-day event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Nov. 18-21 on Siesta Beach with 10 teams of two competing for $18,000 in prize money.
