South GMD repaving project postponed

The Sarasota County portion of Gulf of Mexico Drive will be repaved at a later date, moved from its original start date of Aug. 23 to sometime in September. Heavy rains have been delaying the repaving project, as well as scheduling conflicts.

The project will include removing the old asphalt and resurfacing the road with new asphalt, doing shoulder work, and curb and gutter work. New sidewalks will be constructed, and pavement markings and highway signs will be added.

There will be necessary lane closures, as well as night work between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., Monday through Friday. The paving work will be done between 10 p.m. and 6:30 a.m., at Longboat Club Road and Bay Isles Parkway. Construction is now estimated to be finished by March 2011.
