I learned this day, from dispatch, that someone called in earlier this week to report the vessel listing from all the rain we have had. Convertible crime?
1:41 p.m. – Officer Thomas – 3000 block, Gulf of Mexico Drive – The complainant/victim responded to the Longboat Key Police Department to file a complaint in reference to damage done to her vehicle. She advised that earlier this date, she noticed air coming through an opening to her car’s convertible top. Upon further investigation, she discovered a two- to three-inch cut along the top right seam of the convertible top. It appeared the cut was possibly made with a knife of some type. She was certain the cut was not there before an incident had occurred between her and another unknown guest at a local resort.
She stated that she was returning to park in her parking space at the resort. Another vehicle parked in her spot at the resort, then had to move out of her spot. The owner of the other vehicle was asked to move his car by the people he was with when they observed her returning. She stated she did not know any of the people in this group nor did she know what room they were staying in. She believes the young man who had to move his car was not staying at the resort. She believes this incident had something to do with the top of her car being cut. She was unable to provide any further information regarding this case. I issued her an LBKPD case number along with a copy of this report.

I contacted the owner of the Doberman. I also saw the Doberman that was not aggressive toward me. The yard is fenced and it is not a practice to allow the dog to run free, it merely escaped this time. He is aware of the leash ordinances.
Bright lights a concern
12:34 a.m. – Officer Quarmby – 500 block, Bayport Way – During routine patrol I observed that all of the white lights at the entrance island to Bayport were on. These are lantern type lights, approximately 20 count, which are on the edge of the curbing and are quite bright.
The beach was checked and found to contain at least two active turtle nests directly across the street from the lights, and these nests were illuminated by the lights. Also on the beach were two tent frames fully erected but without the canvas and numerous chairs. All of these items were very close to the turtle nests and within 50 feet of the water. Dispatch made telephone contact with the answering service and the “on call” person, who stated that he would respond and take care of the lights.
