Save Our Seabirds’ Old Fashioned Fish Fry fundraiser welcomed more than 200 supporters to the Old Salty Dog Restaurant last weekend. Lee Fox, Save Our Seabirds rehabber and executive director, explained the expenses of Save Our Seabirds must come from community donations. Other sponsors include Bobby Smith Music, SweetBay, TradeWinds Resort, St. Petersburg, Coke, LexJet and Dunkin’ Donuts.

The Sarasota Jewish Chorale begins its 12th season of outreach to the Sarasota/Manatee area with rehearsals this fall at 7 p.m. Thursdays at the Hecht School, Federation Campus, 580 Macintosh Road. The Chorale entertains at schools, synagogues, churches, retirement homes and other venues in the community from October through April. Singers of all faiths are welcome.

The Longboat Key Property Owners’ Coalition filed a complaint Friday, July 30, asking the Circuit Court to find the Town of Longboat Key’s approval of the Key Club redevelopment plan in violation with land use regulations and specifically the town’s Comprehensive Plan.

Joseph Hooker who had just taken command of the Army of the Potomac. Fighting Joe, as he was known, regaled the assembled throng with predictions of the misery he would visit on Robert E. Lee and the Army of Northern Virginia.
