Marine Lt. Gen. John R. Allen, acting commander of the U.S. Central Command and former deputy commander to Gen. David Petraeus, spoke to the Sarasota-Manatee World Affairs Council at the Longboat Key Club July 24.

Longboater Dr. John Hays is pictured with Gen. Allen after his discussion on the affairs of Iraq and Afghanistan. Dr. Hays and wife, Judy Kepecz-Hays, have a son, Lt. Col. Jon Kevin Hays, who is now serving his fourth combat mission in Iraq.
