Tragic story.
I agree and vote YES for Key Cameras.
I'm currently installing a "welcome" camera on my front entry and back lanai to greet any energetic bad guys.

Yes, I agree that cameras on the bridges would definitely enhance the security on the island. We could all benefit from that additional peace of mind. Palm trees are a nice touch, but safety should be a priority.

I think Bob Craft makes a very good argument for cameras.

The Hlywa burglary is just so sad.
To lose a loved one is terrible, to lose things that can not be replaced is bad, but to be robbed again, a second time on Long Boat Key is indefensible.
Last year we lost 2 policewomen.
I asked the Town then for security cameras on both bridges, the same kind that are in most convenience stores, banks, shopping centers and places where the businesses care for the safety of their customers.
Just like those that are already in place here on LBK.
I was told it cost $50,000, and that was to much to spend.
I think security cameras would save a lot more than the cost to install.
Crooks don't like to have their pictures taken and a nice sign saying "Smile your are on Longboat Key, we have taken your picture, we care for your safety" would be remembered by crooks and a good way for solving these pesky break-ins and thievery we are having by having time lines and tag numbers.
I would gladly trade a few of those palm trees that are jammed together on both ends of our island, give up the new Town Welcome signs, or traffic signs to be "Protected and Served," by something that provides real value, Safety and Security on Longboat Key.
