Andy Cail passes

Anne Marie (Andy) Cail, a Longboat Key resident and realtor, died Monday, June 7 at the age of 73. She and her son formed the Cail Group in 1992, and later parlayed that into the Cail-Grande Group of Michael Saunders & Company.

Andy Cail was a realtor for 23 years, and prior to that was an interior designer and middle school teacher. Cail was an avid volunteer, belonging to Reading Fur Fun where she would use her dog to help teach children to read, and organizing the All-Star Children’s Foundation Annual Luncheon.

Cail was born Nov. 8, 1937, and was a resident of Chestnut Hill, Mass., and a graduate of Boston College. She married Tom Cail in 1959, and they lived in Pensacola while he served in the U.S. Marine Corps, before they both moved to the Boston area while he attended Tufts University. Cail then taught middle school in the Weston, Mass., school system until her first son was born. After teaching, Andy went on to become an interior designer. Finally, in 1978, the Cail family returned to Florida, making the Sarasota area home. There, Cail earned her real estate license in 1987, and five years later she and her son became business partners.

Cail is survived by her husband, Dr. Tom Cail, of Longboat Key; son, Thomas Cail III, of Sarasota; daughter, Elizabeth Allen Brewer, of Clarence, N.Y.; and three grandchildren. A celebration of life will take place at 4 p.m. Monday, June 14, at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, 40 N. Orange Ave., Sarasota. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation, smhf.org, the Humane Society of Sarasota County, hssc.org, or TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, tidewell.org.
