North end interim renourishment plan
The Town of Longboat Key is planning for a $5 million beach project that will restore the beach at the north end this summer. Currently, the North Shore Beach Access is closed due to the severe loss of sand. The town is trying to obtain a permit from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), which would allow the town to rebuild the entire beach profile at the north end. The beach would be 200-feet wide and would hopefully maintain for another year before the next beach renourishment begins in November 2011.
