Oil drilling debate continues

The Longboat Key Public Interest Committee presented both sides of the oil-drilling issue Thursday evening at the Hilton on Longboat Key. Residents, politicians, Longboat employees and interested parties packed the house.

Presenting opposing views were Susan Glickman, a consultant to the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy and the Natural Resources Defense Council and Weldon Frost, a 37-year retired veteran of Mobil Oil. Glickman was against oil drilling and Frost was pro oil drilling.

Each side presented their case to the audience, then were allowed a rebuttal period to answer and address issues raised by their presentation period. Gaele Barthold, Longboat Key PIC member, moderated the event. Audience members were provided a question and answer period.

The Longboat Key Public Interest Committee (PIC) is a civic watchdog organization. PIC is non-profit and non-partisan, and gives no money to any candidate or cause.
