Longboat Key Club hearings on deck
Longboat Key Club quasi-judicial hearings will be held in front of the town commission on Friday, Jan. 8, 2010 at 9 a.m. at Temple Beth Israel, 567 Bay Isles Rd. For information call 316-1999.
Police officer hired
The Town of Longboat Key Police Department has announced the hiring of police officer Robert Bourque. Bourque has served for six years as a Tampa Police officer and seven years as an officer of the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. In addition to being a patrol officer, during that law enforcement career, he gained experience as a fully trained SWAT officer and Narcotics Detective. He resides with his wife in Manatee County and has two children in the local school system. Bourque has been sworn in and begins field training immediately.
Longboat Key Garden Club dedicates bench to Claudia Fuller
The Longboat Key Garden Club will hold the Dedication of the Claudia Fuller Memorial Butterfly Bench on Thursday, Dec. 31 at 11 a.m. in the Bicentennial Park. Friends and family of Claudia Fuller will dedicate the memorial bench and plaque in her honor. Punch and cookies will be served afterwards and all her many friends in our community are cordially invited to join.
Harry’s hosts wine tasting
to benefit Garden Club
On Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010 Harry’s Continental Kitchen will host a Wine Tasting for the benefit of the Longboat Key Garden Club. Everyone is invited to Harry’s at 525 St. Judes Drive, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Cost is $10 per person with $5 of that going as a credit for any wine purchased. Come out and support the Garden Club at this fun event at which Harry and Lynn always have some fantastic wines to taste along with their famous appetizers.
March election candidates
With the qualification deadline for the March election past this week, the final candidates for each district are now gearing up to organize their campaigns and prepare for debates. District 1 with three candidates, will require a preliminary election in to be held on Jan. 26, 2010. Voter registration closing date for the Jan. 26, 2010, preliminary election is Dec. 28, 2009. All persons who intend to vote in the preliminary election need to be registered by Dec. 28, 2009. The list of candidates are as follows:

Join in and be a part of the team to Save Our Seabirds bird hospital and rehab sanctuary (prior site of Pelican Man Bird Sanctuary on City Island).
